Contact Tracing (also know as Partner Notification) is something you can do to ensure the health of you and you partner(s) after testing positive for a sexually transmissable infection (STI).

What is contact tracing?

Contact tracing (also known as partner notification) is something you can do to ensure the health of you and your partner(s) after testing positive for a sexually transmissible infection (STI).
Not all STIs require contact tracing, however some infectious conditions place others at immediate risk, e.g. HIV or Syphilis in pregnancy.

You can speak to a nurse at SHIL if you’re unsure or would like to support with telling partner(s).

You could tell people:

  • In person
  • Over the phone, by SMS or via social media apps
  • By email
  • Anonymous contact tracing website

Anonymous Contact Tracing Websites

There are several websites you can use to anonymously tell partners if you feel more comfortable doing it this way. You will need their email address or their phone number.

Social media, including hook up apps and dating sites are common ways for people to find partners for sex. SHIL can assist with contact tracing when an infection is of public health significance and you are unable to perform the task yourself.

Partner Notification Program

Partner Notification is the process of informing sexual partners or people who inject drugs that they may be at risk of an infection.
